I can’t believe it’s been almost a year since my last blog post. Y’all have been keeping us really busy in the shop — Thanks very much to all of our great customers!
Here’s a quick overview of the latest…
We continue to work on finishing our shop space. It will be two years in August since we moved into the new space. The pole barn we moved into had mostly gravel floor and bare walls; not to mention a missing barn door. Let’s just say it’s been a bit of work getting the barn up to speed and keeping the shop running. Thank goodness for family and friends who pitched in! And we are almost there. Just a few more small projects and we will call the remodel good for a few years.
We plan to finally add more help files, pics and videos to the site this summer. I get to answer all the emails from people who are confused about the terminology we use in our forms, so I know it’s not as easy as it should be. I want to fix that this summer. As a start I posted a short video of a shop overview:
Some people may have noticed the entire site is now secure (the padlock in your browser address bar). Before today we were only enforcing a secure connection on the store pages. The latest best practice is to secure all pages of a site, so we have made that change.
I will be making further changes to the site around July 1st. To allow for a bit of a break and to work on the machines, we usually shut the shop down for a week around July 4th and again Jan 1. During this year’s summer “vacation” I am planning on making some changes to things behind the scenes of the site so we may close the site for a day or so at a time. I will keep everyone posted once we have more details on the plan.
Finally, I expect lead times to stay about the same for the time being. We have been running 3-5 days for EPP sheet, 7-10 days for Quick order Cores, and 14-21 days for Custom Cores. We usually do slow down in the Summer, but I have plenty of other projects to keep me busy, so projected lead times will not change. Perhaps once we get the barn done and the site updated we can speed things up by a few days, but no promises at this point. Thanks for your understanding!
We get many requests to ship internationally. We would love to be able to offer it direct from the site, but the complexities of shipping large boxes from a small volume shop prevent us from being able to support. The good news is we have found a compromise for those of you who need items shipped internationally.
MyUS is a company here in the US that acts as a freight forwarder. They will provide you with a US address and arrange for shipping to your destination. We have signed up to be an affiliate. If our international customers have any issues with this service please do let us know. While we can not offer direct support involving international shipping via MyUS, we certainly do want to know that you are being taken care of when dealing with a service we recommend.
If you want to use MyUS you must create an account with them using the link below and they will provide you with a US address.
And please remember, all international shipping service and pricing is handled by MyUS. You will pay FlyingFoam for domestic shipping from Illinois to Florida, and MyUS handles your items the rest of the way. That means you will pay additional shipping to MyUS.
Bad News: We finally had to adjust our EPP sheet pricing. It’s been a few years since we had a price increase, and we were overdue. 1.3# in 24×36 saw the biggest change as pricing was years behind, while 1.9# price increases were very small.
Good News: We will offer a 10% discount on all sheet product until end of year to help with the transition to new prices. We do not offer many general discount codes, so take advantage of this offer as it’s only good until end of year. Use coupon code EPP10 at checkout for your discount. Applies only to EPP sheet in your cart.
Amy and I hope you all have a great Holiday Season!
We just finished the first phase of our three phase move and are getting caught up on all orders. Should have our production queue worked off by close of business today.
Here’s the rest of the schedule for our move:
Aug 4-11: Phase 2 Move; Shop Closed
Aug 12-19: Shop Open in CO
Aug 20-31 : Phase 3 Move; Shop Closed
Sept 1st: Shop Open in IL
We will keep the online store open during this entire period, but please expect about a 10 day lead until Aug 19th. After Aug 19th lead times will likely be about 14 days until we get the shop up and running in IL. We expect leads to be back to normal around Sept 7th. We will update the blue site banner as we progress.
Watch the blue site banner for current lead times. We will keep that updated as we progress through the move.
Rocketship Systems and FlyingFoam will be moving this Summer. Specifically, over the next 6 weeks. Our plan is to be move complete and be back up and running full tilt by Sept 1st.
We love Colorado, but we had a great opportunity to move back home to Illinois, so we took it. We will be moving in stages and will keep the shop running here until August 19th. We will then shut down and move to be back up and running by Sept 1st.
Also, some of you may notice that Amy is now signing off on some of your orders. My awesome wife has joined me full time at the shop. FYI, she likes to be addressed as Queen of Foam.
Thanks for your patience and understanding as we make this transition.
