Shop and Site Update 4/17/18

I can’t believe it’s been almost a year since my last blog post.  Y’all have been keeping us really busy in the shop — Thanks very much to all of our great customers!

Here’s a quick overview of the latest…

  • We continue to work on finishing our shop space.  It will be two years in August since we moved into the new space.  The pole barn we moved into had mostly gravel floor and bare walls; not to mention a missing barn door.  Let’s just say it’s been a bit of work getting the barn up to speed and keeping the shop running.  Thank goodness for family and friends who pitched in!  And we are almost there.  Just a few more small projects and we will call the remodel good for a few years.
  • We plan to finally add more help files, pics and videos to the site this summer.  I get to answer all the emails from people who are confused about the terminology we use in our forms, so I know it’s not as easy as it should be.  I want to fix that this summer.  As a start I posted a short video of a shop overview:
  • Some people may have noticed the entire site is now secure (the padlock in your browser address bar).  Before today we were only enforcing a secure connection on the store pages.  The latest best practice is to secure all pages of a site, so we have made that change.
  • I will be making further changes to the site around July 1st.  To allow for a bit of a break and to work on the machines, we usually shut the shop down for a week around July 4th and again Jan 1.  During this year’s summer “vacation” I am planning on making some changes to things behind the scenes of the site so we may close the site for a day or so at a time.  I will keep everyone posted once we have more details on the plan.
  • Finally, I expect lead times to stay about the same for the time being.  We have been running 3-5 days for EPP sheet, 7-10 days for Quick order Cores, and 14-21 days for Custom Cores.  We usually do slow down in the Summer, but I have plenty of other projects to keep me busy, so projected lead times will not change.  Perhaps once we get the barn done and the site updated we can speed things up by a few days, but no promises at this point.  Thanks for your understanding!

Move Update 7/29/16

We just finished the first phase of our three phase move and are getting caught up on all orders.  Should have our production queue worked off by close of business today.

Here’s the rest of the schedule for our move:

  • Aug 4-11: Phase 2 Move;  Shop Closed
  • Aug 12-19: Shop Open in CO
  • Aug 20-31 : Phase 3 Move; Shop Closed
  • Sept 1st:  Shop Open in IL

We will keep the online store open during this entire period, but please expect about a 10 day lead until Aug 19th.  After Aug 19th lead times will likely be about 14 days until we get the shop up and running in IL.   We expect leads to be back to normal around Sept 7th. We will update the blue site banner as we progress.

Thanks for your patience and support!

We Are Moving!

Watch the blue site banner for current lead times.  We will keep that updated as we progress through the move.

Rocketship Systems and FlyingFoam will be moving this Summer.  Specifically, over the next 6 weeks.  Our plan is to be move complete and be back up and running full tilt by Sept 1st.

We love Colorado, but we had a great opportunity to move back home to Illinois, so we took it.  We will be moving in stages and will keep the shop running here until August 19th.  We will then shut down and move to be back up and running by Sept 1st.

Also, some of you may notice that Amy is now signing off on some of your orders.  My awesome wife has joined me full time at the shop.  FYI, she likes to be addressed as Queen of Foam.

Thanks for your patience and understanding as we make this transition.

Best,

Amy and Coby

Shop Update 4/28/16

Some of you will notice that the Kits and Accessory sections are no more.  We continue to stay very busy cutting Quick Order Cores and EPP Sheet, and sell very few kits.  So we decided to keep FlyingFoam focused on what we do best, which is to CNC some of the best wing cores in the business.  The FlyingFoam designs can still be purchased as cores in the Standard Cores section.  We do have some fans of our designs so we wanted to make sure you could keep them in the air.  You will just need to source your own kit parts going forward.  Thanks for your understanding.  Good flying!

Site Update

We are sill in the process of moving a few things around on the server, and between service providers.  I am initiating a move that may cause the site to go down for a few hours.  Sadly, I do not have any control on when it happens as that is between the service providers involved.  Could be any time in the next 1-5 days.

UPDATE:  Looks like sometime on Jan 25th the service transfer will complete.  Should not cause any more than a few hours of down time.

UPDATE 12/27/16.  Service transfer complete.  We should be good to go.

Shop Status 1/20/16

Happy New Year ! Wait a minute!  It’s almost February?  Since I just spent the last ten days building a new web site I am a bit behind in the office.  And I need a nap.  I am about 100 emails behind, so I will get a BIG mug of coffee first thing in the morning and start working through your emails and quote requests.  Hopefully the new Quick Order Cores will prevent you guys from waiting on me as much in the future.

The good news is Aziz has been cutting and shipping foam while I worked on the new site.  We are down to about a week of backlog in the shop, and it’s usually closer to three.

It’s about time for you students out there to remember you have to build stuff to graduate, so bring it on.

Regards,

Coby
